Woods came from three shots behind to win in Ohio

Tiger Woods took advantage of a disastrous finish by Padraig Harrington to win the World Golf Championship event in Ohio on 12 under par.

The world number one started the day three shots behind clubhouse-leader Harrington but rallied to win a seventh title at the Firestone Country Club.

A string of pars kept Harrington in contention despite Woods holing an eagle and five birdies.

However, a triple-bogey on the 16th for Harrington gifted Woods the title.

Harring! ton, who had led for the first three rounds, regained a one-stroke cushion with three holes to play before his round collapsed on the 16th when he sent his fourth shot on the par-five from the rough into the pond guarding the green.

A closing score of 72 earned the disappointed Irishman a tie for second place with Australian Robert Allenby.

A crumb of comfort to Harrington may be the fact he has chance to exact revenge when he pairs up with Woods in the first two rounds of the USPGA Championship at Hazeltine National in Minnesota, which begins on Thursday.

Elsewhere, England's Lee Westwood closed at five under for ninth place following a 65 which was his best round of the week and secured his fourth consecutive top-10 finish, including a tie for third at The Open.

Compatriot Oliver Wilson finished 11th at three under with a closing 71, while Ian Poulter was 15th.

Hunter Mahan and Masters champion Angel Cabrera finished on seven under in a tie for fourth while Open winner Stewart Cink and his fellow American Steve Stricker closed at six under alongside Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez.
